In this case study, I briefly describe the thinking process behind the User Experience for the
website of Indian Road Safety Campaign

In order to come up with new solutions, I conducted a UX audit session to get familiar with the original layout, its certain features and functions. A cognitive walkthrough turned out to be especially helpful for the design of the website

Problem Statement

With the increasing awareness about the road safety in India, Indian Road Safety Campaign is the road safety initiative by IIT Delhi to take efforts ensure safety for the people as the problem of 1.5 lakhs lives being lost across India in a year. I was asked to do a Audit report for their website for the evaluation and drawbacks of the website to improve the website for providing users the necessary information in a simple and comfortable way and user traffic on the website.

Solution

The main idea of the process will be consistent information being displayed on the main screens of the website. A solution that the road safety awareness being present on online website, where users can get all the information regarding the safety rules and regulations seamlessly providing a good user experience for the users of any age without any hesitation.

Heuristic Analysis

This usability engineering method was used to find usability problems in the user interface design based on the 10 Nielsen Heuristics. Heuristics that would need to be prioritized were categorized based on number of issues and their estimated impact.

Recommendations

  • Use of proper grid, the suggestion will be to have 14 column grid with a margin as 40 px and gutter width of 20 px

  • Follow consistency in design elements such as buttons, font, font size, spacing, padding, etc.

  • Leave white spaces rather than cluttered UI elements

  • Prioritize data and information according to the importance hierarchy

  • About us should be introduced along with the images in the background on the main landing page

  • Check for accessibility issues regarding contrast, color as in defining primary and secondary colors which can be used throughout

  • Keeping the UI minimal and easy as possible
